Cobo at Point Zero Forum 2025: Rethinking Security for the Next Generation of Crypto Users

At the Point Zero Forum 2025 in Zurich, Cobo COO Lily King joined executives from top exchanges — Antonio Alvarez Lorenzo (Chief Compliance Officer, Crypto.com), Robert MacDonald (Chief Legal & Compliance Officer, Bybit), and Steven McWhirter (Global Policy Lead, Binance) — for a panel titled:

“Evolving Consumer Expectations and Their Impact on the Future of Security in Crypto.”

Drawing from eight years of experience at the forefront of custody and infrastructure, Lily shared how rising user expectations are transforming how security must be designed and delivered.

From Early Adopters to Informed Demands

Post-FTX, users — both retail and institutional — are more informed and cautious. Whether it’s degens at exchanges who prefer layered security models, or TradFi firms treating crypto custody like a bank account, everyone now expects verifiable security and instant access to assets.

At the same time, the industry has evolved. A multi-chain, modular ecosystem has replaced the single-chain era, and use cases have expanded far beyond exchanges into sectors like DeFi, NFTs, and GameFi — each with its own risk profile.

Custody Is No Longer Just Storage

As Lily pointed out, custody in Web3 isn’t just about holding assets — wallets are now the interface to everything on-chain. But with that power comes complexity and friction, especially for users who aren’t crypto-native.

For exchanges and builders, the burden of managing secure infrastructure continues to grow. What’s needed now is infrastructure that’s both invisible and institutional-grade, so that developers and platforms can focus on what they do best — without compromising control or security.

A Message for Regulators

In the lightning round, Lily offered a final note to regulators:

“Consumers expect crypto applications to be as seamless and secure as their banking app. But the threat landscape is evolving just as fast. We need principle-based rules that can keep up with technology — because security shouldn't just tick boxes. It should protect users in real time.”

At Cobo, we’re not just watching this shift — we’re building the infrastructure that makes it possible.
